MouseEmu is a freeware for WINDOWS and its size is ~10kb. Download from the following site

It basically will replace your numlock as a mouse controller and you can continue your work easily.

Simply run the program, and it will show a list of keys that you may press to move the mouse cursor in whatever direction you like. It maps the Numpad Keys to mouse movements. So 8 is mouse-up, 4 mouse-left, 6 mouse-right and 5 mouse down. Numpad Keys 1,2 and 3 double up as Left-Click, Right-Click and Scroll-Click. Numpad 7 and 9 are used to scroll up and down.

Which processor?

For some people, processor is the basic criterion for deciding which laptop to take and for the rest it might not be such a big parameter. If you are light to moderate laptop user, Core i3 processor would suffice all your needs such as movies, gaming, word processing or surfing the web. For a light gamer like myself, I would definitely go a step further and take Core i5 processor for all my gaming or photo processing needs. For hardcore gamers and heavy users, Core i7 is the way to go.

Keyboard

This might not strike as an important factor to many people , but most of the dust attracted by the laptop accumulates between the keys. A chiclet keyboard adds a refreshing look and feel to the machine while doing with any dust particles apart from being great to type on. Also, the back-lit keyboard factor may be important to some people.

USB 3.0

With transfer rate of 480 MB per second, USB 3.0 is the future. Make sure the machine ships with at least one port to future-proof laptop.

Screen Size

The screen size of the laptop decides on how portable the machine is and it directly affects the overall weight. Larger the screen size, more difficult is to move with it and heavier is the laptop. So, you need to keep in mind what forms the main importance, the screen size or the portability.

SSD or HDD

The decision between SSD or HDD is solely on how much you are willing to spend. HDD prices are falling each day and SSD are still costly. If you want your laptop to be future proof, go for SSD. Rest decision stays on the buyer and the budget.

Battery Life

A lot depends on the hardware that effects battery life. An average 6 cell battery gives roughly 203 hours run time under normal usage. However, if willing to spend more, a 9 or 12 cell battery easily doubles up your backup power.

Do I need WINDOWS ?

It is not compulsory to take Windows. There are free alternate OS such as Ubuntu or other Linux OS. This saves on the total cost of the laptop. But, if you still want to go for Windows OS, then get one that is preinstalled on the system.  Genuine Windows is always better than a pirated one.

Acer or Dell or Asus or HP ?

This question often confuses almost all of us and the answer also lies within us itself. One needs to look on what service the particular company provides and also how far is service center from his place or if there is onsite or offsite warranty. Also, ‘personal’ preference may override some of the above factors. Entirely one’s decision to go with which brand as all brands work hard to keep up their name.

And as for personal preference thing, I personally prefer Dell and HP laptops just because I like their service and have used their products before. This in no ways stop me from buying/trying Asus or Acer or other products.
